Pillarican scribes reap awards in DSPC 2011

OLPC-C lands over-all 2nd runner up

Equipped with passion, determination, and Faith in God, seven Pillarican young scribes delegated and bagged awards during the Division School’s Press Conference (DSPC) participated by all private and public school in Cauayan City held at Cauayan City National High School (CNHS), Novemerb 18-19, revolving with the theme “Promoting Digital Literacy Through Campus Journalism”.

John Michael Vito H. Marzan won as 2nd placer in Sports Writing (English), Diana Lou F. Cabael was hailed as 3rd placer in Feature Writing (English), Lorenzo P. Mangantulao Jr. grabed the 5th place award in Photo Journalism (English), Ingrid Nicole G. Ramos landed the 6th spot in Copyreading and Headline Writing (English) and Lyle Erika G. Atienza, a first timer won as 2nd placer in Photo Journalism (Filipino) and 6th placer in Copyreading and Headline Writing (Filipino). Adrianne Paul I. Aniban also won 8th placer in Editorial Cartooning (English) while Alexandra S. Sagario, an observer snatched the 10th place spot in Feature Writing (English). Other participants include Ma. Elaiza Hillarih A. Ercilla – News Writing (Filipino), Monique M. Andaya- News Writing (English), Keith D. Nuesa – Feature Writing (Filipino), Ma. Carmella G. Valdez – Editorial Writing (English), and Elyssa M. Salazar – Editorial Writing (Filipino). Kathleen Mae M. Zaratan and Jasmine Kate F. Madriaga also joined the winning team as observers.

“The long wait is over!”, said Ingid after the awarding ceremony. For the first time, OLPC-C was hailed over-all 2nd runner up in this year’s Presscon. The two-day event aimed to hone up the journalistic inclinations of young writers and promote digital literacy as a tool for responsible campus journalism. Diana, John Michael, Lorenzo, Ingrid, and Lyle with their coaches, Mr. Alejandro C. Rodriguez and Mrs. Jomelyn B. Balinuyus will join the Regional School’s Press Conference (RSPC) on December 15-17 at Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya.
