“This is unexpected. For so many years we’ve been wanting this and now it finally happened,” exclaimed Ruby V. De Luna, RM, RN, MAN, the Dean of the College of Nursing and Midwifery when asked about her thoughts on her department being announced as the Overall Champion for the Festival of Talents (Sportsfest) held last October 20-22, 2022 at Our Lady of the Pillar College-Cauayan.

Garnered a total of 289 points, the CNM department ranked first among the five departments, followed by the College of Accountancy (COA) with 278 points; Senior High School (SHS) with 226 points; College of Business Administration and Hospitality Management (CBAHM) who accumulated 212 points; College of Education, Information Technology, and Engineering (CEDITE) with 204 points and lastly the College of Criminology (CRIM) with 190 points.

“Now, we are given the chance to stand alone as a team and hindi namin inexpect na ganito yung kakalabasan but we did our best and that’s the best part of it, in-enjoy lang ng mga bata yung kanilang paglalaro. The participation and cooperation of all the athletes, as well as the motivation and the support of all clinical instructors really helped us win this time,” De Luna added.

Sportsfest games were composed of both minor and major events. In major games, the department winners were as followed: Volleyball (Men)– 1st CNM, 2nd CRIM; 3rd CBAHM, MVP- Mave Rick A. Capuchino; Volleyball (Women)- 1st SHS, 2nd CNM, 3rd CRIM, MVP- Nicole Valerie M. Ciriaco; Basketball (Men)- 1st CBAHM; 2nd CRIM, 3rd CNM, MVP- Christ Jay C. Singson.

As for the minor events which comprised some ballgames, mind games, and dance sports, the distinguished winners per game were as followed: Basketball (Women)- 1st CRIM, 2nd CBAHM, 3rd COA, MVP- Vanessa S. Datul; Sepak Takraw– 1st COA, 2nd CNM, 3rd CEDITE; Table Tennis (Women-Single)- 1st CBAHM, 2nd SHS, 3rd CEDITE; Table Tennis (Women-Double)- 1st SHS, 2nd COA, 3rd CBAHM; Table Tennis (Men-Single)- 1st CBAHM, 2nd CRIM, 3rd SHS; Table Tennis (Men-Double)- 1st CBAHM, 2nd CEDITE, 3rd COA; Chess (Men)- 1st CEDITE, 2nd COA, 3rd CBAHM; Chess (Women)- 1st COA, 2nd SHS, 3rd CNM; Boggle (Men)- 1st CNM, 2nd COA, 3rd SHS; Boggle (Women)- 1st COA, 2nd CNM, 3rd SHS;  Scrabble (Men)- 1st CNM, 2nd COA, 3rd SHS; Scrabble (Women)- 1st COA, 2nd CNM, 3rd CBAHM; Games of the Generals (Men)- 1st CEDITE, 2nd CNM, 3rd COA; Games of the Generals (Women)- 1st CBAHM, 2nd CEDITE, COA, CNM, 3rd SHS.

Dance sports was also a minor event that conducted on the first day of the Festival of Talents. Exhibition dances for both Latin and Standard categories were performed and the hailed winners were as followed: Latin- 1st CNM, 2nd CEDITE, 3rd CRIM and Standard- 1st COA, 2nd CEDITE, 3rd CNM. Trophies and medals were awarded to the said winners on the 22nd day of October during the awarding ceremony.

The Sportsfest was celebrated annually through the leadership of the Supreme Student Council, under the supervision of the SSC adviser Dominador A. Regatchon, MBM, and the sports coordinator, Orlino Pataueg. It was an activity done to promote sportsmanship and cooperation among the athletes, students, and teachers.
