Grade 8 class of Saint Mark, the Evangelist, guided by their class adviser, Kenneth John R. Laggui, celebrated the feast day of their class Patron Saint through a fun and fruitful day, February 22.

The celebration kicked off with a simple introduction about Saint Mark through Regin Rex S. Apostol, CFP teacher and CM Coordinator. In the afternoon after their simple yet hearty lunch prepared by the parents, the fun games which were enjoyed by the students followed through.

What Do We Know about St. Mark?

Also referred to as John Mark, he was first introduced in Acts 12 as the companion of Paul and Barnabas on their apostolic missions. He worked alongside these two faithful Christians to spread the Gospel across the nations. Although he was not a direct disciple of Jesus, Saint Mark is the author of one of the four Gospel accounts and played a vital role in spreading the Gospel as a missionary in the early church.

A winged lion is Mark’s symbol. The lion derives from Mark’s description of John the Baptist as a “voice of one crying out in the desert” (Mark 1:3), which artists compared to a roaring lion. The wings come from the application of Ezekiel’s vision of four winged creatures to the evangelists.
