Teen PillariCANs of Our Lady of the Pillar College-Cauayan, Inc. Junior High School department led by the Christian Formation Program (CFP) club officers guided by the CFP club adviser, Regin Rex S. Apostol, spearheaded the lighting of the candle of hope that signifies the start of the Advent season, December 2.
Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas, is the beginning of the church year. The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin adventus, which means “coming.” Advent has been a time set aside for preparation since the sixth century. In addition to reflecting on and commemorating Christ’s first coming at Christmas, it is a time to get ready for His second coming. For this reason, Advent also uses purple, the color of Lent and a symbol of repentance and forgiveness.
