A total of 732 pupils and students from various private schools in Cauayan City participated in the Private Schools Press Conference (PSPC) 2025 with the theme “Campus Journalism: A Beacon of Truth, Integrity, and Hope Amidst Corruption and Censorship,” held at Our Lady of the Pillar College–Cauayan, Inc. (OLPC-C), October 16–17.
With its aim to select and to train young journalists who will represent their schools in the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), participants from Charis Christian Academy Foundation Inc. (CCAFI) Centro de Cultura Inc. (CDC), Children of Lourdes Academy – Cauayan Inc. (CLACI), Crown Academy of Cauayan, Inc., Isabela Colleges, Inc. (IC), Metropolitan Bible Baptist Learning Center, Inc. (MBBLCI), Merry Sunshine Montessori School (MSMS), Nan Sing School of Cauayan City (NSS), Our Lady of the Pillar College-Cauayan, Inc. (OLPC-C), Pilgrims Evangelistic Academy of Christian Education (PEACE), Piccoli Sognatori Academy, Inc. Saint Clare College of Region 2, Inc. (SCC), Top Achievers Private School Inc., – Cauayan Campus (TAPS), The Cauayan Messiah Christian School Inc. (TCMCS), and University of Perpetual Help System – Isabela Campus (UPHS-IC), joined the two-day press gathering to help them develop accuracy, objectivity, and creativity in reporting.
Distinguished resource speakers graced the event, namely Prof. Ben Domingo, Melvin Gascon, Mia Baquiran, and Charmy Sabigan, who shared their expertise in various fields of journalism and guided the student-journalists through their lectures and workshops designed to enhance the students’ writing and reporting skills.
Throughout the conference, teen PillariCAN student-journalists from the Junior High School department showcased their talents and learned practical techniques for campus journalism and were recognized during the awarding program. For the individual events, Cyda Andrea U. Parcasio, topped the Science and Technology writing English category and Rayden F. Bolaños ranked fourth in the same event; Nicole C. Andal clinched second place and Nathaniel Angelo P. Quebec placed third in Editorial writing English; Aiana Khristin D. Par ranked first in Feature writing English; Marianne Jane L. Agbunag ranked fourth in copyreading and headline writing Filipino; while for Column writing Filipino, Atasha Andrea D. Pagallamman clinched fourth place; and Maria Caryna Sherby V. De Luna topped the editorial cartooning Filipino event.
Aside from the awards received in the individual events, the Teen PillariCANs also garnered awards in radio broadcasting Filipino namely: overall second place, second Best Script, second Best Anchor, and second Best News Presenter.
The event concluded with high hopes that the trained participants will excel in the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2025, carrying the banner of excellence in student journalism.
