As schools finally reopened after a two-year ban on mass gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Our Lady of the Pillar College-Cauayan formally commenced its Sportfest 2022 with the theme: “Gaining Active Lifestyle to Achieve Wellness (G.A.L.A.W) Pillarican” at the Grandstand, October 20.
Rain or shine, nothing can stop the eagerness and excitement of the Pillarican students. The OLPCC field that was once empty had brimmed with loud cheers, passion for winning, and excitement from the students, instructors, and administrators for their respective departments. The Sportsfest started with an Opening Eucharistic Mass Celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Vener C. Ceperez, the school chaplain. Afterwards, the respective heads and Deans of each Department cheerfully and proudly presented their talented athletes.
The six competing teams were composed of the College of Accountancy (COA), College of Criminology (CRIM), College of Nursing and Midwifery (CNM), College of Education, Information Technology and Engineering (CEDITE), College of Business Administration and Hospitality Management (CBAHM), and Senior High School (SHS) Department. With the crowd’s enthusiastic cheers, the School President, Exuperio V. Flores, Jr., Ph. D, announced the declaration of the Sportsfest open.
The games prepared for the three-day celebration gave Pillarican athletes a chance to show off and enhance their athletic skills in their individual sports. The event also fostered a break from academic stress and strengthened the unity and sportsmanship among students, faculty, and staff. Through this event, the students and athletes can ignite and put into practice the line “I am a Pillarican! Surely, I Can!”
